Alta Innovations, the wholly owned technology transfer company of the University of Birmingham, is seeking to appoint an Incubation Manager for its recently established business incubator, the BizzInn.
The post holder's main role will be to have full responsibility for the day to day operations of the BizzInn (business incubation facility) and ensure that clients gain access to the support they need to turn their business idea into reality. The majority of these emerging businesses will have some form of biomedical focus, although there will be some working in peripheral sectors who will benefit from and add to the entrepreneurial environment supporting the Biomedical Innovation Hub. The post-holders’ business expertise will be extended by that provided by a growing network of associates, and Entrepreneurs-In-Residence with whom s/he will work closely.
The successful applicant will have worked with and/or for early stage hi-tech businesses, and will have the credibility and gravitas to effectively advise/signpost clients. Equally important, the individual will possess excellent organizational skills in order to provide day to day delivery of the BizzInn facility, organize regular surgeries, and seminars, and effectively monitor and record the progress of clients and the overall performance the BizzInn activities.
Created in 2013, and located at Birmingham Research Park next to the University of Birmingham, the BizzInn provides a unique business incubation facility that accelerates the growth of companies. At BizzInn, entrepreneurs, start up companies and small businesses work alongside each other and have access to a wide range of support services, specialist facilities and shared experiences designed to help them grow as fast as possible. The BizzInn is also a key element of the new Birmingham Biomedical Innovation Hub being built on the Birmingham Research Park, and due for completion in 2014. The Birmingham Biomedical Innovation Hub is a £6.8m project (part-funded by ERDF) aimed at increasing the engagement of companies in the biomedical and related sectors with the University and encouraging access to facilities both within the University and within new lab-space provided at the Innovation Hub. The Incubation Manager Post is a key role within Alta Innovations Ltd (a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Birmingham) which operates both the BizzInn and Birmingham Research Park. It is initially funded until July 2015, with support from the European Regional Development Fund.

Grade/band Grade 7
Starting salary is normally in the range £28,132 to £36,661. With potential progression once in post to £38,907 a year.
