KTN's online platform helps you to make the connections you need

The Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) has refreshed its online platform to intelligently connect you to relevant events, funding, thought pieces and specialist staff to help your business innovate and grow.

You can discover content using your area of interest, from sustainability to transport; from space to health – all major UK economic sectors are covered. Once you have selected your interests, using our intelligent tagging system, we will then display rich and relevant content related to your area, often from surprising sources.

An example might be new satellite technology from the space sector that is applicable in the agri-food sector. KTN-UK.co.uk will help you form these unusual and valuable connections.

All content on the platform has been carefully curated by our team of innovation specialists – not by an automated algorithm – so you can be confident that KTN is connecting you to the most relevant cutting-edge information.

The move also marks a closer alignment with our main funder, Innovate UK , with the website branding making a clear visual link. Knowledge Transfer Network is Innovate UK's innovation network partner, and also works with other funders to provide innovation networking services and fulfil our mission to drive UK growth.

We link new ideas and opportunities with expertise, markets and finance through our network of businesses, universities, funders and investors. From agri-food to autonomous systems and from energy to design, KTN combines expertise in all sectors with the ability to cross boundaries. Connecting with KTN can lead to potential partners, horizon-expanding events and innovation insights relevant to your needs.

KTNs are moving on up

_connect2 Innovation

Over the next few months, the Technology Strategy Board will be upgrading the _connect open innovation platform (upon which all KTNs, many Special Interest Groups, a number of Catapult networking groups, and some others - see full list here - currently reside) to a newer version of LifeRay (the networking portal we rely on).

We are calling it _connect2 (original, huh?).

What does this mean?

There will be some improvements, for example:
  • It will look and feel a lot cleaner, slicker and - we hope - faster.  See m-era.net's site as an example.
  • It will enable us to aggregate transport-related information together from other _connect2 groups, networks, KTNs, etc.  We hope you will find that this provides interesting content that will stimulate new ideas and connections with other people and technologies.
  • It will have a better tagging, indexing and search facility that will enable you to find related content, technologies and people.
  • It has better people and profile management which means you can connect with other members much more easily, email them, and chat in real-time, which will facilitate collaborative working and peripheral connections (after all, even the Harvard Business Review agrees that peripheries are a key to innovation!)

We will work hard to keep any disruption to a minimum, but if you'd like to volunteer to be a guinea pig for us, we'd be delighted to have you on board. Please email me for more info.

We will be doing testing between the 15th April until go-live date, which the Technology Strategy Board has confirmed to be the 15th May 2013.

We will post more information here as we get access to it - please comment on this post or email me directly if you have any questions or comments.
