KTN's online platform helps you to make the connections you need

The Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) has refreshed its online platform to intelligently connect you to relevant events, funding, thought pieces and specialist staff to help your business innovate and grow.

You can discover content using your area of interest, from sustainability to transport; from space to health – all major UK economic sectors are covered. Once you have selected your interests, using our intelligent tagging system, we will then display rich and relevant content related to your area, often from surprising sources.

An example might be new satellite technology from the space sector that is applicable in the agri-food sector. KTN-UK.co.uk will help you form these unusual and valuable connections.

All content on the platform has been carefully curated by our team of innovation specialists – not by an automated algorithm – so you can be confident that KTN is connecting you to the most relevant cutting-edge information.

The move also marks a closer alignment with our main funder, Innovate UK , with the website branding making a clear visual link. Knowledge Transfer Network is Innovate UK's innovation network partner, and also works with other funders to provide innovation networking services and fulfil our mission to drive UK growth.

We link new ideas and opportunities with expertise, markets and finance through our network of businesses, universities, funders and investors. From agri-food to autonomous systems and from energy to design, KTN combines expertise in all sectors with the ability to cross boundaries. Connecting with KTN can lead to potential partners, horizon-expanding events and innovation insights relevant to your needs.

Data Exploration Competition anticipated

As published in the ICT section of its 2013/14 Delivery Plan, the Technology Strategy Board will be making available up to £3.5M (plus additional co-funding from others) for a Collaborative R&D (CR&D) funding opportunity in the final quarter of the current financial year, under an initiative titled "Data Exploration".  Data Exploration is defined as 'Analytics, Modelling & Visualisation', and this initiative will look to encourage innovation between those in non-ICT sectors who have large or complex data and those in the ICT domain who can help develop advanced tools which can help 'explore' it, with the aim of making insights easier to emerge, un-obvious value easier to realise and key decisions easier to make.  The objective will be to move the state of the art on in this important area of the data challenge.

The Data Exploration opportunity will be structured around two dimensions: business/industry sectors and technical challenges.  The scope of the resulting competition will be determined by where such challenges in exploring data intersect with the needs of sector domain experts.  As a part of the on-going consultation with different sectors leading up to the launch of this Data Exploration competition, the Technology Strategy Board in conjunction with a number of Knowledge Transfer Networks (KTNs) will be organising a number of events around the UK to gather information, promote the competition and bring potential collaboration partners together.  Further details will be available soon about these events, which will be free to attend but limited in numbers.

We expect that this competition will be of particular interest to anyone who is interested in transport modelling and simulation and the potential of using complex data sets in urban modelling.

As with all these things, please follow @transportktn on Twitter, and join the Transport KTN - and ICT KTN - to be informed of any developments.
