KTN's online platform helps you to make the connections you need

The Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) has refreshed its online platform to intelligently connect you to relevant events, funding, thought pieces and specialist staff to help your business innovate and grow.

You can discover content using your area of interest, from sustainability to transport; from space to health – all major UK economic sectors are covered. Once you have selected your interests, using our intelligent tagging system, we will then display rich and relevant content related to your area, often from surprising sources.

An example might be new satellite technology from the space sector that is applicable in the agri-food sector. KTN-UK.co.uk will help you form these unusual and valuable connections.

All content on the platform has been carefully curated by our team of innovation specialists – not by an automated algorithm – so you can be confident that KTN is connecting you to the most relevant cutting-edge information.

The move also marks a closer alignment with our main funder, Innovate UK , with the website branding making a clear visual link. Knowledge Transfer Network is Innovate UK's innovation network partner, and also works with other funders to provide innovation networking services and fulfil our mission to drive UK growth.

We link new ideas and opportunities with expertise, markets and finance through our network of businesses, universities, funders and investors. From agri-food to autonomous systems and from energy to design, KTN combines expertise in all sectors with the ability to cross boundaries. Connecting with KTN can lead to potential partners, horizon-expanding events and innovation insights relevant to your needs.

Same same, but different!

Important changes are afoot

We'd like to inform our members and website visitors of some exciting changes to the knowledge transfer networks (KTNs) that support the innovation community represented on _connect.

From 1 April a new company, KTN Ltd, will exist that brings together all the separate networks and communities that we currently serve into one integrated organisation. This interdisciplinary network will  provide a powerful vehicle for promoting innovation across all of UK business.

This is the first of a series of updates on the new KTN structure and what it means for our members and contacts.

david lockwood                 David Lockwood: This is an exciting time for me, and UK business.

Our Chair David Lockwood (also Chief Exec of Laird plc) and CEO Chris Warkup are already in place and the leadership team is nearly fully finalised. We have over 110 staff from current KTNs who have signed up as employees and are well on the way to assembling all the backend functions that we need to set up the new company.

Last week we held our first staff conference and the organisation is taking shape at pace. Our hub offices will be located in London, Edinburgh, Oxford, Cambridge, Runcorn and Horsham. We will continue to use our website here on _connect as the focal point for all KTN activity, although we will revise and refresh our presence here.

The new company structure enables us to retain the vast majority of staff and communities our members already know, whilst also offering quicker access to a wider range of markets, ideas and expertise across sectors and disciplines. We believe it is the right response to the interdisciplinary nature of innovation. The pace of change is accelerating, the development cycles for new technologies are shortening and therefore we need to communicate and to make connections more efficiently than ever before.

Over a decade of guidance from industry advisors has been critical to our approach and we will be setting up new advisory structures to provide the continuing industry input that is fundamental to our success. Many of you who have given so generously of your time and experience in the past will be invited to do so again.

We will continue to support the networking you are used to whilst offering the added value of facilitating more efficient connections with groups in other sectors who might exploit the same technology or use their own expertise to help develop it. We will also be able to work more closely with The Technology Strategy Board and Catapults.  In short we believe we will be more effective in helping your organisation to grow and make an even greater impact on the way we innovate in the UK.

We are developing a Q&A but if you have any questions for the leadership team of the new company, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

One final note: as part of the transfer to the new company, we will need to ask members to confirm their consent to being contacted by KTN Ltd. The Technology Strategy Board will be writing to you again about this shortly – please do keep an eye out for that message.

We're very excited about the new capabilities that being part of an integrated family of KTNs will enable us to offer.  We'd like to thank all our members and website visitors for their continuing support, and look forward to being able to provide even more efficient connections through our deeper integration across KTN Ltd.

If you have any questions about this transition, please feel free to contact us on transport@ktn-uk.org.
