The term 'technical textiles' was coined in the 1980s to describe the growing variety of products and manufacturing techniques being developed primarily for their technical properties and performance rather than their appearance or other aesthetic characteristics. It largely superseded an earlier term 'industrial textiles' which had become too restrictive in its meaning to describe the full complexity and richness of this fast growing area.

The world of technical textiles is closely interlinked with all other areas of the Materials Community of KTN Limited - especially materials and design.  Technical fibres are made from and are used in conjunction with a wide range of materials including polymers, metals, ceramics, coatings, membranes and composites.  Their use penetrates every area of industry, transport, healthcare, sport and leisure as well as packaging, performance clothing, household and contract textiles, furnishings, plus a wide range of protective applications.

This group aims to provide one-stop access to a wide range of information, technology and management resources, including breaking news andthe latest events.   Above all, we seek to provide information and services that match as closely as possible your individual user profile, interests and requirements.
