Who we are
The Technical Textiles Sector activities are led by a small dedicated team from TechniTex Faraday Limited in Manchester. TechniTex has strong links to the School of Materials at the University of Manchester and to all leading Textile and Fashion Departments in UK Universities.
The Technical Textiles Sector is led by Brian J. McCarthy C.Text, FTI, C. Biol FSB, ProfGrad IMMM who has been active in knowledge management and technology translation for over 18 years and engaged with the textiles industry for over 30 years. He joined TechniTex Faraday Partnership, a Faraday Partnership supporting Technical Textiles comprising the Universities of Heriot-Watt, Leeds and Manchester in 2001. He is a visiting lecturer on the Technical Textiles Masters course at the University of Manchester. He is a council member of the Textile Institute and Chairman of the Technical Textiles Special Interest Group.
In January 2005 TechniTex were amalgamated into the Materials Knowledge Transfer Network as the Technical Textiles Node and expanded to cover the high added-value textile and clothing sectors. Brian is supported by Chris Byrne (another technical textile and technology translation specialist) and leading academics - Professor Chris Carr (Manchester) and Professor George Stylios (Heriot-Watt). The Technical Textile Sector has an advisory group chaired by Dr Peter Stephenson, MD of Sefton Technologies. The Honorary Chairman of TechniTex is Lord Haskel.
Brian McCarthy also leads on healthcare issues for the Materials KTN.
