Convention on Biological Diversity and synthetic biology

By Amy Tayler

The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has invited Parties to that Convention, Non-Parties and Organisations (including the UK) to provide information and views on a number of issues related to synthetic biology and the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. This process has culminated in discussion via an on-line forum and a meeting of experts. The outcomes of those activities have recently been made available for peer review. The CBD has requested comments by 31 January 2016 and these will be submitted along with the published documents to the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice for deliberation at their next meeting in April 2016. Further information on contributing to the peer review can be found on the CBD website.
