Budding entrepreneurs are being invited to showcase their ideas for ground-breaking new technologies in a Dragon’s Den-style pitch for their share of £250,000, as part of a new initiative to discover the best innovators in the UK’s agriculture industry.
Launched by Briefing Media Agriculture, the owners of publications including Farmers Guardian, in conjunction with The Co-operative Food, Agri-Innovation Den gives entrepreneurs with an interest in farming an opportunity to develop their ideas for new technologies and innovations, which will help shape the future of the UK’s agricultural industry.
Who should apply?
Briefing Media Agriculture are looking to invest £250,000 in technology based concepts and start-ups in UK agriculture. This investment opportunity is open to anyone with a technology based concept or product which is relevant to UK agriculture.
Applicants must have a concept that is based on an innovative technology, process or application. All applicants must be able to demonstrate a sustainable competitive advantage. Any products must service a niche or add value within an existing market which differentiates itself from any competitors.
The sort of business that should apply for this funding could be software companies, app or systems suppliers. Or companies using farm data, mapping or weather information in an innovative way.
The investment opportunity is open to businesses that have already launched products and need help to drive them forward as well as those in the process of prototyping.
Applicants should have a credible and feasible business or business plan. Products should be technically proven – with either a prototype or as a working product. Ideally applicants should have a clear roadmap to a profitable operation of the concept.
In addition to the funding, winners will get advice, support and mentoring in areas such as marketing, buying, distribution channels, business planning, plus the opportunity to trial the innovation, product, process or technology within The Co-operative Food’s farming groups.
