TB Advantage - new genetic index to help dairy farmers breed for improved resistance to bovine tuberculosis

AHDB Dairy has recently published a new genetic index to help help dairy farmers make informed decisions to breed cows which have an improved resistance to bovine tuberculosis (bTB).

The index was developed following research into the genetics of bTB by the University of Edinburgh, Roslin Institute and Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC), supported by Defra and the Welsh Government. It is based on data from 65,000 Holstein cows, and is therefore currently only available for the Holstein breed, but it may be extended to other dairy and beef breeds in the future.
