Food Processing and Manufacturing Efficiency call 2012

In June 2012, the SAF-IP launched a collaborative R&D competition for funding entitled ‘Food processing and manufacturing efficiency'.

Rising costs and increased regulation around greenhouse gas emissions and waste pose a significant challenge to the industry. This competition aimed to encourage more efficient food processing, packaging and distribution in retail and food service sectors and the efficient recycling of manufacturing by-products and waste.

Innovate UK (Previously know as the Technology Strategy Board), in partnership with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and the Scottish Government invested up to £15 million projects increasing in efficiency, sustainability and competitiveness in the food processing and manufacturing sector.

The competition flyer is available for download here.

In March and April 2012, KTN organised a series of workshops to help delegates get a better understanding of the scope of this competition, as well as the competition process, rules and how to apply. KTN representatives were on hand to help with any queries related to the competition and to explain how KTN can help applicants with the process.

The workshops were held as follow: 20th March - Belfast; 22nd March - Edinburgh; 27th March - Leeds; 28th March - Peterborough; 29th March - Reading; 3rd April - Exeter; 4th April -Cardiff.

The delegates were given the opportunity to give a short presentation outlining their areas of expertise and interest to potential partners.

All presentations, delegate pitches and attendee lists for each workshop are available in the '2012 Food Processing and Manufacturing Efficiency call' folder in the Document library.
