KTN's online platform helps you to make the connections you need

The Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) has refreshed its online platform to intelligently connect you to relevant events, funding, thought pieces and specialist staff to help your business innovate and grow.

You can discover content using your area of interest, from sustainability to transport; from space to health – all major UK economic sectors are covered. Once you have selected your interests, using our intelligent tagging system, we will then display rich and relevant content related to your area, often from surprising sources.

An example might be new satellite technology from the space sector that is applicable in the agri-food sector. KTN-UK.co.uk will help you form these unusual and valuable connections.

All content on the platform has been carefully curated by our team of innovation specialists – not by an automated algorithm – so you can be confident that KTN is connecting you to the most relevant cutting-edge information.

The move also marks a closer alignment with our main funder, Innovate UK , with the website branding making a clear visual link. Knowledge Transfer Network is Innovate UK's innovation network partner, and also works with other funders to provide innovation networking services and fulfil our mission to drive UK growth.

We link new ideas and opportunities with expertise, markets and finance through our network of businesses, universities, funders and investors. From agri-food to autonomous systems and from energy to design, KTN combines expertise in all sectors with the ability to cross boundaries. Connecting with KTN can lead to potential partners, horizon-expanding events and innovation insights relevant to your needs.

RBS Innovation Gateway - Grants for Testing Resource Efficiency Innovations

Launch of the 2016 programme

The Innovation Gateway challenge aims to help businesses get their products tested and into a wider market, quickly and successfully. RBS is looking to identify innovative ideas and ‘garage-tested’ green solutions that could also encourage resource efficiency.

RBS, alongside Sainsbury's, Carillion and BaxterStorey, will provide support to SMEs, entrepreneurs and inventors with pioneering ideas that could potentially address an infrastructure challenge they are facing across their property estates. Businesses, innovators and inventors will have the opportunity to test their ideas for enhancing engagement and cutting consumption of energy, water and waste on these properties.

Successful innovators will get the chance to trial their products with one or more of the Gateway partners. The provider will ask conceptual and garage tested applicants what would be important to take their business forward on the application form. This could be funding, introductions to new corporate customers, access to advice and expertise, etc.

Market-ready innovators that proceed to trial with a Gateway Partner will receive full payment for all equipment, units, survey work etc.

Solutions that can help tackle one of the four challenges below, will be eligible, for trialling innovation with RBS, Sainsbury's, Carillion and BaxterStorey:

  • Engaging on resource efficiency
A technology-led innovation that can help effectively engage colleagues, customers and suppliers with sustainability-related messages.
  • Reducing Energy Use
An innovative product or solution that can help reduce energy usage, particularly from refrigeration, or generate own renewable energy across a diverse portfolio of building type, age and sizes.
  • Reducing Water Use
An innovative solution to help improve water efficiency in buildings, to not only conserve water but reduce the impacts associated with its collection, processing, use and disposal.
  • Reducing and Reusing Waste
An innovative disposal and waste avoidance solution that can help tackle food and office waste. The providers are particularly interested in finding new ways that can create value from waste through reuse or repurposing.

SMEs, entrepreneurs and inventors in the UK with pioneering resource efficiency ideas may apply.

The deadline for applications to be received is 12 May 2016.
