The Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) has refreshed its online platform to intelligently connect you to relevant events, funding, thought pieces and specialist staff to help your business innovate and grow.

You can discover content using your area of interest, from sustainability to transport; from space to health – all major UK economic sectors are covered. Once you have selected your interests, using our intelligent tagging system, we will then display rich and relevant content related to your area, often from surprising sources.

An example might be new satellite technology from the space sector that is applicable in the agri-food sector. KTN-UK.co.uk will help you form these unusual and valuable connections.

All content on the platform has been carefully curated by our team of innovation specialists – not by an automated algorithm – so you can be confident that KTN is connecting you to the most relevant cutting-edge information.

 

The move also marks a closer alignment with our main funder, Innovate UK , with the website branding making a clear visual link. Knowledge Transfer Network is Innovate UK's innovation network partner, and also works with other funders to provide innovation networking services and fulfil our mission to drive UK growth.

New funding opportunity for SMEs working in Scotland’s bioeconomy

Do you have an innovative process that could change the way we use and value resources? Can you add value to materials that are often considered a waste?  Are you looking for funding to demonstrate your technology?   


If so, the Bioeconomy Accelerator could be for you! The Bioeconomy Accelerator is being run by Zero Waste Scotland in partnership with the Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre to support businesses and organisations working in the industrial biotechnology, food and drink and wider bioeconomy in Scotland and is now open for applications.


Bioeconomy Accelerator

As part of a wider £18m Zero Waste Scotland Circular Economy Investment Fund, the Bioeconomy Accelerator has been created to stimulate growth and encourage collaboration between business and academia in this area. 

What are the benefits to your business?

  • Capital and revenue funding to progress innovative projects
  • Projects can be led by SMEs and supported by academia or in collaboration with academia or progressed by SME alone

Already paving the way 
Projects already successfully working in the bioeconomy area in Scotland include CelluComp, a company turning nano fibres from root vegetables into an environmentally friendly thickener for paint; Argent Energy using waste fats and oils to convert into biofuel and Ogilvy Spirits, making vodka from potatoes not suitable for retail. 


Who can apply?
Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and higher education institutes delivering circular economy and waste reduction projects in the industrial biotechnology and food and drink sectors, and the wider bioeconomy.

The deadline for outline project proposals is 19 December 2016. Successful applicants will then be invited to submit a full application to be received by 28 February 2017.
