KTN's online platform helps you to make the connections you need

The Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) has refreshed its online platform to intelligently connect you to relevant events, funding, thought pieces and specialist staff to help your business innovate and grow.

You can discover content using your area of interest, from sustainability to transport; from space to health – all major UK economic sectors are covered. Once you have selected your interests, using our intelligent tagging system, we will then display rich and relevant content related to your area, often from surprising sources.

An example might be new satellite technology from the space sector that is applicable in the agri-food sector. KTN-UK.co.uk will help you form these unusual and valuable connections.

All content on the platform has been carefully curated by our team of innovation specialists – not by an automated algorithm – so you can be confident that KTN is connecting you to the most relevant cutting-edge information.

The move also marks a closer alignment with our main funder, Innovate UK , with the website branding making a clear visual link. Knowledge Transfer Network is Innovate UK's innovation network partner, and also works with other funders to provide innovation networking services and fulfil our mission to drive UK growth.

We link new ideas and opportunities with expertise, markets and finance through our network of businesses, universities, funders and investors. From agri-food to autonomous systems and from energy to design, KTN combines expertise in all sectors with the ability to cross boundaries. Connecting with KTN can lead to potential partners, horizon-expanding events and innovation insights relevant to your needs.

Call for Participants: Urban Innovation in Brazil Newton Fund Partnership Building Visit

Deadline for applications: GMT 17:00 on Friday 9 December 2016

Introduction to the Newton Fund Competition

Innovate UK And Brazil's Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services (MDIC) are running the Urban Innovation in Brazil competition for proposals for collaborative research and development projects between British and Brazilian companies focusing on innovative, connected cities and renewable energy solutions.

Companies are invited to submit proposals under the following challenge areas, with corresponding areas of potential technological solutions:

  • Integration and governance of systems within a city
  • Urban infrastructure and affordable, smart mobility
  • Sustainable urban environments

Innovate UK and the Brazilian government are funding this competition as part of the UK–Brazil Newton Fund programme. For full details of the competition, please visit the Innovate UK competition page.

Partnership Building Visit to Brazil

To help UK and Brazilian participants interested in this competition to meet and develop collaborative partnerships, the Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) and Foreign & Commonwealth Office Brazil, on behalf of Innovate UK and the Brazilian government, are organising a visit for UK stakeholders to Brazil during the tentative dates between Saturday 21st to Friday 27 January 2017, inclusive of travel time.

Our objective is to take a group of approximately 15 UK stakeholders to San Paulo and Belo Horizonte, providing sufficient opportunities to identify and meet with potential Brazilian partners, and take forward discussions on collaborations. We also aim to give UK participants a good appreciation of the challenges that Brazil faces first-hand and the context of what it means to work with counterparts in the country.

The visit will most likely consist of:

  • Brokering event(s) where UK and Brazilian companies, research organisations and others can showcase their capabilities and areas of project interest.
  • Introductory event(s) for UK stakeholders on the innovation, social and investment landscape in Brazil, and Brazilian companies on the innovation and investment landscape in the UK
  • Visit(s) to key Brazilian organisations and/or projects that reflects the challenges and opportunities the competition is attempting to address.

As the competition specifies that the UK project lead must be a business, companies will be given priority in the visit application process. However, the competition also allows UK academic institutions, other research organisations, public sector bodies and charities undertaking research activity in the UK to form part of the consortia, and therefore these organisations are also welcome to apply for the visit.

Successful applicants will be expected to pay a £500 contribution towards the cost of the visit, primarily to cover flights and accommodation. This will be required to be paid before the visit takes place.

How to apply for the visit

We invite applications to attend this visit from eligible parties genuinely interested in submitting a proposal under the Newton Fund competition. Applicants must complete the application form, and these will be assessed on a competitive basis. The selection process is intended to target UK organisations with a balanced mix of innovation capabilities and collaboration experience to work with Brazilian partners, and where additionality of this funded visit can be demonstrated.

Please note that, as places are limited, we will only be able to take one representative per organisation on the visit.

The deadline for submitting the application is GMT 17:00 on Friday 9 December 2016 by emailing the completed Application Form to Dr Nee-Joo Teh (neejoo.teh@ktn-uk.org).

Successful applicants will be informed of their place on the visit by Friday 16 December at the latest.

Note: All information provided to Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) under this call will be held securely and may be shared with Innovate UK, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in Brazil and MDIC (Brazil’s Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services) for the purpose of arranging this visit and the Newton Fund Brazil programme.
