The Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) has refreshed its online platform to intelligently connect you to relevant events, funding, thought pieces and specialist staff to help your business innovate and grow.

You can discover content using your area of interest, from ICT to transport; from space to health – all major UK economic sectors are covered. Once you have selected your interests, using our intelligent tagging system, we will then display rich and relevant content related to your area, often from surprising sources.

An example might be new satellite technology from the space sector that is applicable in the agri-food sector. KTN-UK.co.uk will help you form these unusual and valuable connections.

All content on the platform has been carefully curated by our team of innovation specialists – not by an automated algorithm – so you can be confident that KTN is connecting you to the most relevant cutting-edge information.


The move also marks a closer alignment with our main funder, Innovate UK , with the website branding making a clear visual link. Knowledge Transfer Network is Innovate UK's innovation network partner, and also works with other funders to provide innovation networking services and fulfil our mission to drive UK growth.

Analysis for Innovators (A4I) Innovate UK funding opportunity

The Analysis for Innovators compeition, which opens in January, addresses productivity head on, by trying to solve existing measurement or analysis problems that companies may have, by eventually pairing them with one of four partner organisations from the set of National Measurement Institutes to bring the cutting edge techniques and expertise in R&D projects which can solve those problems.  The four partners in the A4I programme are STFC, National Physical Laboratory (NPL), National Engineering Laboratory (NEL) and Laboratory of the Government Chemist (LGC). 
This may appeal to manufacturing companies who may have problems with precision or accuracy sensing and measuring on production line facilities for example, but could equally well find suitable problems to attack in other sectors including especially for SMEs in supply chains.  It may appeal to companies who don’t usually do much R&D but which would be prepared to invest in some to solve a problem that could be worth a lot to their business, either in terms of fewer rejects or new markets / customers that require tighter tolerance than they can currently meet for example.   A4I is open to companies only (no academics, sorry folks) of any size.
A4I is non-standard in all sorts of ways … in particular it is a two stage competition where the applicant at first stage only describes their problem and states the value of solving it … no R&D project proposal or solution, no normal 10 questions about market, team, costs, resources, plan, additionality etc. (stop cheering!) A different kind of assessment phase and “match-making process” will then follow before each company gets together with one of the partners and creates a project proposal which goes into the second stage for more traditional assessment.
Because there are so many differences in the way that A4I will run compared to our usual competitions, InnovateUK is running a series of roadshow events around the UK to brief about A4I between now and Christmas.  The formal competition brief will be published in due course and the official briefing for the competition will be on 12 January after it opens on the 9th January.  But we would like to get word about the roadshow events out to as many companies who may be interested as soon as possible and get as many to attend the events as possible.
