BBSRC and Innovate UK have recently established the second phase of the UK Biofilms Programme. This will be an approximate £12.5M investment to establish a Biofilms Innovation Knowledge Centre (IKC). The Science and Technology Facilities Council's (STFC) Daresbury Laboratory has also offered support via an in-kind contribution of up to £1M worth of access, over five years to their High Performance Computing facilities within the Hartree Centre.
Biofilms create major challenges and opportunities for businesses operating across a myriad of industries, but understanding and manipulating them remains very challenging. In the past decade there have been significant advances in underpinning bioscience research that can now be built upon, harnessed and applied to the multidisciplinary opportunities and challenges of biofilms.
A launch event for this programme and workshop was held on 11 November 2016. However, KTN is hosting a follow-up webinar to provide another opportunity to learn more about the competition, to discover the support available as you prepare your applications, and to submit your questions to the funders. The presenters include Baljinder Bains (BBSRC) and Richard Hebdon (Innovate UK).
