Exploration & Robotics
The UK already has significant Robotics and Exploration expertise based on the experience gained from its leading role in the ESA Aurora and ExoMars programmes. In addition there are many UK capabilities that can be spun into the space industry from other autonomous systems programmes such as the ASTRAEA and the SEAS Defence Technology Centre, where UK has world-leadership in key areas such as autonomous vehicles.
In addition to continuing to support the Aurora programme at the 2012 ESA Ministerial conference the roadmap has identified several areas where space exploration technology would be applicable to spin along over time. These include commercial space, unmanned vehicles for military use, civil applications within the nuclear industry or oil and gas exploration and to help the aging society by progressing service robotics.
