GaN on silicon substrates - what does this mean for future devices?

As many of you will have probably noticed, there is lots of coverage of the emergence of epitaxial GaN on silicon substrates.  And a variety of application areas have been discussed, such as for high-brightness LEDs & power devices.  But could there be potentially more areas of application?  The substrates are Si <111> which is not ideal for mainstream CMOS devices - but perhaps you have other ideas?  Pls let us know what you think by writing your own blog on the subject, as a reply to this piece pls.  & thanks for your interest.!!
