New £5m metadata competition launched

The Technology Strategy Board has lauched a competition with up to £5m available to help businesses create new metadata production tools.

The competition is for collaborative R&D projects that will create tools that make the production of content such as film, music and computer games, more cost-effective, less risky and yield greater value through the advanced use of metadata.

The competition is split into two categories:

1. Fast-track projects below £100k in total project value; led by a creative industries SME; completed within 12 months

2: Collaborative R&D projects greater than £100k in value. Led by a creative business, these will take between 12 and 18 months.

The full brief on the competition including the timeline for both categories is now available for download.

To help businesses understand how the competition works and to find partners we are running a series of briefings.

Nov 11: Bristol

Nov 16: London

Nov 30: Manchester

Dec 1: Edinburgh

This competition follows on from one earlier this year which looked at projects to help businesses increase revenues from the metadata relating to their digital content.
