** Final Date Confirmed** Programme of Workshops to Support Medical Technology Companies

Optimising MedTech Development & Innovation through Research

The NIHR Office for Clinical Research Infrastructure (NOCRI) and the HealthTech & Medicines KTN launched a series of regional workshops in 2011 to support the medical technology industry. For the first time, the NIHR is providing companies with a comprehensive overview of the innovation landscape on a regional basis.

With speakers from the NIHR, industry, ABHI, Department of Health and NICE, each event provides companies with a “route map” to successfully translate ideas into commercial products. To support the uptake of new technology into clinical practice, these events will highlight the importance of understanding unmet clinical need and the generation of appropriate clinical evidence for medical technologies.

NOCRI, the KTN and their partners piloted this approach in York, since then events have been held in London and Nottingham. Companies attending all events have given overwhelmingly positive feedback about the value of the day.

Events have featured a number of speakers from the NIHR Clinical Research Network and the NIHR Clinical Research Infrastructure, including Dr Ceri Williams from the Leeds NIHR Biomedical Research Unit in Musculoskeletal Disease, Prof Gareth Lloyd-Jones and Wendy Tindale from the D4D (Devices for Dignity) NIHR Healthcare Technology Cooperative. Industry speakers have also given advice from the coalface including examples of working with the NIHR and valuable in-sights into the regulatory environment and NICE Medical Technologies Evaluation Programme.

NOCRI and the KTN are leading this programme with in partnership with the Department of Health, NICE, ABHI and NIHR CRN.
