BBSRC/EMBRAPA joint call for collaborative research proposals in wheat research

BBSRC and the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation ( Embrapa) have announced a joint call for collaborative research proposals in wheat research.

The purpose of this pump-priming award is:

  • to enable UK and Brazilian researchers to work together to develop competitive, integrated, collaborative research proposals for submission to the BBSRC/EMBRAPA Joint Wheat full call
  • bring together the complementary expertise and resources of eligible Brazilian and British scientists to address challenges in the sustainability of wheat production

What areas are covered?

Proposed projects should inform the development of new traits or practices that would enhance the sustainability of wheat production in the context of the wider agri-ecosystem, by one or more of the following means:

  • Better countering diseases, pests or weeds
  • Greater resilience to abiotic stresses
  • Improved nutrient use efficiency
  • More sustainable soil and land management of wheat crops

They would particularly welcome applications which integrate either:

  • genetics with agronomy and/or (agri-) ecology approaches or
  • studies of host-microorganism interactions including epidemiological approaches

How to apply

  • Pump-prime application deadline: 24 February 2015, 4pm
  • Full call application deadline: 23 September 2015, 4pm
