The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) is the principal public funder of non-medical biosciences research and training in the UK. BBSRC invests in a broad research base in microbial, plant and animal sciences and have a responsibility to ensure the successful application of the excellent research and training we support for the widest possible benefit to the economy and society. BBSRC has ambitious plans to ensure biosciences can address global challenges and contribute to innovation in the UK Bioeconomy.

BBSRC has identified Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy (IBBE) as one of its 3 strategic research priorities and the successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with a variety of stakeholders to assist in shaping future funding activities in this area.

You will have an understanding of the biological sciences, or an interest in IBBE, and an appreciation of the potential impact of research outcomes. Self-motivated, quick to learn and flexible enough to manage a diverse and rapidly changing portfolio of activities, you will also be able to analyse and present complex information, work to deadlines and build excellent relationships inside and outside the organisation.

 

Activities

The main activities associated with this role are:
• To work within an enthusiastic BBSRC team to undertake activities to promote BBSRC strategy and support mechanisms to the academic community
• To liaise with relevant researchers from BBSRC funded programmes, building relationships with principle investigators and providing advice to encourage maximum impact
• To engage with colleagues from other Research Councils, the Technology Strategy Board, Government departments and other relevant organisations in the delivery of projects and programmes
• To use the knowledge gained to help develop the BBSRC strategy in Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy
