SESAME Net: a cross Europe survey of SME's HPC requirements

High Performance Computing (HPC) is a powerful tool that can help Industry and SMEs to develop innovative solutions, reduce cost and decrease time to market for products and services. However the experience of the e-Infrastructure SIG is that business has the impression that UK facilities are not available for them to use, are too costly and un-contactable.

As such the SIG would like to encourage businesses to engage with a survey that has been set up to better understand their HPC needs. This is being done across Europe and will hopefully better enable initiatives to accelerate access to these facilities. Details of the SESAME initiative and a link to the survey are below.

Given the recognised importance of HPC, the European Union has launched several strategic initiatives under its Horizon 2020 R&D programme to demonstrate and promote the benefits that supercomputing can bring to SMEs. One of these initiatives is SESAME Net, a network of HPC competency centres working with SMEs throughout Europe, supporting SMEs in the use of HPC and related technologies.

SESAME Net has recently launched an online survey to obtain critical feedback from SMEs to understand their HPC needs. Please visit the survey, and encourage any SMEs you might know to complete it.

Survey participants will have the opportunity to see the results of the study, by registering their interest they will also be supplied with information about relevant funding including Horizon 2020, and the opportunity to take part in networking activities.

The survey will be available until March 31st 2016. All questionnaire responses will be strictly confidential and all data from this research will be reported only in the aggregate.
