From bench to bedside

The BSMB satellite meeting

‘Advances in Tendon Research: From Bench to Bedside’, sponsored by the Company of Biologists, will be held in London on Monday 7th
and Tuesday 8th September 2015. The main meeting organiser is Dr Hazel Screen, assisted by Dylan Morrisey, Helen Birch, Peter Clegg, Graham Riley and Chavaunne Thorpe.

This meeting will bring together leading scientists and clinicians from across the tendon and allied musculoskeletal research fields, providing a forum for clinicians, engineers, modellers, industry and biomedical scientists to interact. This will support multidisciplinary science, provide networking opportunities, and actively bridge inter-disciplinary gaps. Bridging workshops will be run towards the start of the conference, to help individuals from different fields develop a basic understanding of the techniques and concepts used in other fields, and subsequent conference sessions will cover cross cutting themes. This meeting will also allow attendees to explore the most effective ways to work with industry, benefitting both academia and industry and supporting translational science. There will be a strong industrial presence at the conference, and workshop on the first day of the conference discussing how best to interact with industry, followed by an industry focused networking session, providing ring-fenced time for conference delegates to meet with the industrial conference attendees and find out about both resources available to support their research and collaboration opportunities.

An exciting programme of internationally renowned speakers has been confirmed, including Prof Helen Birch, Prof Michael Kjaer, Prof Jeff Weiss and Prof Jess Snedeker.  There are also many slots available for short talks and posters that will be selected from submitted abstracts. The conference will take place at Queen Mary University of London, and the conference dinner will be held on site in the Octagon, a former Victorian library. Accommodation will also be available on campus. Presenter Bursaries will be available and application for these commences in June 2015.
