Assessing priorities for NICE - funding, improving quality and implementing the Accelerated Access Review

This conference will assess the future of NICE in health and social care.
The agenda includes keynote addresses from Professor David Haslam, Chair, NICE and Professor Gillian Leng, Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Health and Social Care, NICE - as well as from Dr Paul Catchpole, Director of Value and Access, ABPI and Nicole Mather, Director, Office for Life Sciences and Lead, Accelerated Access Review.
Planned sessions look at the changing role of NICE following the Accelerated Access Review (which is expected to publish its final recommendations later this year), challenges for reducing regional variations of care, and more widely at new guidelines that are in development.
Delegates will also consider the impact of the transfer of responsibility for the Cancer Drugs Fund to NICE from July 2016 and prospects for managing patient demand against value for money.
They will also assess the impact of devolution and new models of care on the development of guidelines, as well as key issues for industry and clinicians alike in NICE’s appraisal process - including work being carried out to capture patient preference as part of health technology assessments.
Overall, areas for discussion include:
  • Key priorities for NICE - funding, technologies and supporting new models of care;
  • Implementing the Accelerated Access Review and encouraging a rapid uptake of innovative treatments;
  • Delivering the new Cancer Drugs Fund - cost-effectiveness, access and meeting patient demand;

  • Next steps for patient and public involvement in NICE; and
  • Improving outcomes and increasing the use of data in health and social care.
