KTN's online platform helps you to make the connections you need

The Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) has refreshed its online platform to intelligently connect you to relevant events, funding, thought pieces and specialist staff to help your business innovate and grow.

You can discover content using your area of interest, from Defence Security to transport; from space to health – all major UK economic sectors are covered. Once you have selected your interests, using our intelligent tagging system, we will then display rich and relevant content related to your area, often from surprising sources.

An example might be new satellite technology from the space sector that is applicable in the agri-food sector. KTN-UK.co.uk will help you form these unusual and valuable connections.

All content on the platform has been carefully curated by our team of innovation specialists – not by an automated algorithm – so you can be confident that KTN is connecting you to the most relevant cutting-edge information.

The move also marks a closer alignment with our main funder, Innovate UK , with the website branding making a clear visual link. Knowledge Transfer Network is Innovate UK's innovation network partner, and also works with other funders to provide innovation networking services and fulfil our mission to drive UK growth.

We link new ideas and opportunities with expertise, markets and finance through our network of businesses, universities, funders and investors. From agri-food to autonomous systems and from energy to design, KTN combines expertise in all sectors with the ability to cross boundaries. Connecting with KTN can lead to potential partners, horizon-expanding events and innovation insights relevant to your needs.

Advancing Analytical Technologies for Biopharmaceutical Processes

Innovate UK is to invest up to £4M in collaborative R&D projects to address the UK biopharmaceutical industry’s need for improved analytical technologies to support the development of current and next generation biopharmaceutical products.

About the funding

This competition seeks to advance the development and commercialisation of Biopharmaceutical products and processes by improving the analytical technologies used to develop formulations, monitor processes, characterise products and develop the associated informatics required to implement QbD and PAT approaches.

Projects must be business led and involve collaborations with other businesses or research organisations.  Where appropriate, participants are invited to engage with the National Biologics Manufacturing Centre (NBMC), or other High Value Manufacturing Catapult centres to make use of their specialist skills and expertise and to encourage knowledge transfer.

A typical project proposal will focus on development of innovative analytical technologies for testing, characterisation, process monitoring and the development of supporting informatics tools for the manufacture of biopharmaceutical products. Innovate UK is looking to fund projects that bring together biopharmaceutical producers, research organisations, processing specialists and analytical and process control equipment manufacturers to generate innovative solutions.  Projects are expected to range in size from total costs of £500,000 to £1,500,000, and to be 12 to 36 months duration.

This is a two-stage competition that opens for applicants on 14th September 2015. The deadline for registration is noon on 14th October 2015. The deadline, for expressions of interest, is noon on 21st October 2015. The deadline for the second phase of this competition, for invited applications, is noon on 7th January 2016.
