New funding competition announced: Advancing the Commercial Applications of Graphene

By Siwan Smith

Innovate UK and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) are investing up to £2.5 million in technical feasibility studies to target the applications of graphene with the greatest commercial potential.

The aim of this competition is to stimulate the exploitation of this high-performance material, as well as related carbon-based two-dimensional materials that have emerged from the research base. These studies should evaluate the feasibility and potential of the use of graphene in a specific application, with relevant data to support its performance against current market specifications.

This competition opens on 21 September 2015 and the deadline for applications is at noon on 4 November 2015. Full competition scope will be available mid August.

To support the community in preparing bids into this competition, the KTN is running briefing events in Cardiff and Newcastle on 8th September and 7th October. An Innovate UK briefing event and consortium building session for potential applicants will be held in London on 23 September 2015. You are strongly encouraged to attend one or more of these events. If you would like a 5 minute opportunity to showcase your ideas and make a pitch for partners please email and we will supply you with a presentation template for you to complete on a first come basis.
