NERC Events on Environmental Data Transformation

Mark Your Calendars!

The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) is planning to hold a series of events in March 2012, to showcase cutting edge technologies and capabilities in Data Transformation that can be utilised by industry.

What is Data Transformation?

For the NERC events, Data Transformation is defined as the technologies and techniques used to develop environmental knowledge and data for use in commercial or societal applications. It covers but is not limited to:

Data Curation,Data Assimilation,Data Interpretation,Data Visualisation,Data Fusion, andData Modelling & Simulation techniques.

Depending upon the level of interest, NERC are planning up to three events, with the following provisional dates and locations:

  • 9th March 2012 9am-4pm National Oceanography Centre, Southampton
  • 15th March 2012 9am-4pm Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, Wallingford, Oxforrdshire
  • 23rd March 2012 9am-4pm British Geological Survey, Keyworth, Nottingham

NERC recognise that whilst there is a wealth of data available, it often needs to be transformed to be of value to end-users.

About the Events

The events will showcase NERC funded capabilities in Data Transformation through a series of presentations and open panel discussions on how technologies, techniques and capabilities could benefit industry. There will also be an opportunity to network with NERC-funded researchers and to discuss particular requirements further.

Attending the Events

If you are interested in attending, please mark your calendars with these dates, and contact the organiser, Deepa Wallis to be informed when registration opens.
