Energy Networked Knowledge Transfer Partnership
The Energy Generation and Supply KTN and the Midlands Energy Consortium (the Universities of Birmingham, Loughborough and Nottingham) are working together to grow the number of Knowledge Transfer Partnerships in the energy sector through a new scheme called Energy Networked KTP.
What is a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP)
Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) is a UK-wide programme enabling businesses to improve their competitiveness, productivity and performance and has benefited many businesses across different sectors, including micro, small/medium and large organisations.
The KTP enables you to access skills and expertise within an university to help your business to innovate and grow.
The knowledge sought is embedded into the business from the university through a project, or projects, undertaken by a recently qualified person (known as the Associate), recruited to specifically work on that project. KTPs can vary in length from 1 to 3 years), depending on the needs of the business and the desired outcomes.
What is Energy Networked KTP
Energy Networked KTP is a new project that is being delivered jointly by the EG&S KTN and the Universities (Birmingham, Loughborough and Nottingham) of the Midlands Energy Consortium (MEC) who are working together to grow the number of Knowledge Transfer Partnerships in the energy sector. We will build a cluster of Knowledge Transfer Partnerships in energy that are directly linked in to the EG&S KTN and benefit from the energy expertise residing within the EG&S KTN community as well as within the Universities of Birmingham, Loughborough and Nottingham. Energy Networked KTP will cover all areas of energy including carbon abatement technologies, fuel cells and hydrogen, offshore wind, wave and tidal, nuclear, maximising oil and gas reserves, energy demand management and others.
An Energy Networked KTP will enable your company and the KTP Associate to also benefit from membership of two established communities, the EG&S KTN and the MEC, plus four unique additions.
1. Full integration into the EG&S KTN community. The KTP associate, company supervisor and academic supervisor will join the EG&S KTN and will have access to the networking facilities and resources that the EG&S KTN offers to all its members.
2. Membership of an Energy Networked KTP community. As numbers grow we will create a community space on the EG&S KTN website giving you opportunities to talk to organisations in the energy sector running KTPs. This will enable you to benefit from sharing of experiences and transfer of knowledge with other organisations.
3. Membership of the Midlands Energy Graduate School. The KTP associate will join MEGS, a unique training collaboration, which will give them access to a large group of peers training to work in the energy sector and the unique energy training that MEGS delivers.
4. Access to a wider academic community. With one of the MEC Universities as a partner in your KTP you will be able to benefit from access to the wider MEC community in a variety of ways including the potential to benefit from experimental facilities or expertise across more than one University campus and an invitation to attend the annual MEC conference
Why the Midlands Energy Consortium?
The Midlands Energy Consortium consists of the universities of Birmingham, Loughborough and Nottingham. Our three universities have long invested significantly in energy research. Each has now integrated this activity by establishing interdisciplinary schools and institutes which draw on capabilities in engineering, physical and social sciences. Each University has a proven track record in industry engagement, collectively they Universities have collaborated with around 200 energy-related companies. The MEC has expertise across a wide range of energy disciplines from carbon capture and storage though to renewable energy generation and energy demand management.
