Supply Chain Innovation towards a Circular Economy £5m Fund

The Technology Strategy Board (TSB) are launching a £5m collaborative R&D funding competition entitled ‘Supply Chain Innovation towards a Circular Economy’ that aims to facilitate improved resource efficiency and reduce business risks associated with materials and supply chains. To support companies interested in submitting proposals, the Materials Security Special Interest Group (administered by Chemistry Innovation, Environmental Sustainability and Materials KTNs) are running a free networking event on 21st October in Manchester.

The Competition

The Technology Strategy Board is to invest up to £5m in collaborative research and development that aims to preserve the value of products and/or materials at end-of-life and keeps them in productive use for longer. We are seeking proposals that reduce environmental impact of material lifecycles and dependence on materials with a supply risk, in other words proposals that make supply chains more circular. Proposals should aim to cut general waste stream losses in half – or more.

Proposals must be collaborative and led by a business in a position to make a supply chain more circular. Projects may last up to 24 months and may have total costs of up to £1m. The TSB expect to fund mainly industrial research projects in which a business partner will generally attract up to 50% public funding for their project costs (60% for small and medium-sized enterprises – SMEs).

The Event

This event, which will take place at the Midland Hotel in central Manchester, will feature:

  • A range of speakers introducing the context of the competition
  • Successful applicants from previous Technology Strategy Board competitions
  • An opportunity to network with a range of other businesses who are interested in being involved in the competition for instance as partners
  • Guidance on making a strong application and further free support available through the Knowledge Transfer Networks
  • An introduction to the Materials Security Special Interest Group
