Design for Future Climate #D4FC
The D4FC competition was to enable built environment projects to look at Climate Change in the design of £4.2Bn of construction and building refurbishment in the UK. It ran over two phases between 2010-2014 and granted £5M to 45 projects.
The 240 companies working on this programme were challenged with developing adaptation strategies for their building projects over the course of the 21st century. The design teams were challenged to consider the following:
- What is the risk exposure to future climate?
- How to adapt the building now & the future?
- When to implement adaptation measures?
This site contains all the project reports and outputs plus a wide range of other material on adaptation. This includes guidance and frameworks for undertaking adaptation assessment, presentation material, reports, weather files, cost analysis and policy documents from a range of sources thus providing a unique and comprehensive library of material supporting adaptation and resilience.
The final report was launched on 2 June 2015 in London. This final report analyses the drivers that affect the market for professional building design services to ready buildings for the changing climate. It acknowledges the technical challenge of adapting to climate change is to optimise building design for the most effective phased transition.
