Materials and Design Exchange (MaDE) is hosting a special visit to the 3M Customer Innovation Centre, Bracknell, on Friday 2 December 2016. The event will include a tour of the centre's permanent exhibition and exclusive talks by 3M materials innovators. It is open to all professionals, industrialists and students interested in materials and design innovation.
Following the talks and tour there will be an introduction to the newly formed MaDE Partnership which connects materials science and design to stimulate innovation. Founding partners include the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining, Institution of Engineering Designers, Innovate UK’s Knowledge Transfer Network, Loughborough University and the Royal College of Art.

The Innovation Centre has been created to share the 3M story of innovation and collaboration with customers and business partners, as well as young scientists, designers and engineers of the future. It showcases a wide range of 3M’s 55,000 innovative product lines, from digital stethoscopes for earth-bound doctors to listen to the heartbeats of astronauts to concrete material so light that it floats. There are double sided tapes capable of holding vehicles together; brightness enhancement and energy saving films for mobile devices and LCD TVs; microscopic needles that deliver drugs without pain; and much, much more.
During the visit 3M staff will demonstrate how technology can provide solutions to problems ranging from the day-to-day − such as air bubbles on protective films − to major societal issues, such as the earth’s depleting natural resources. Watch video highlights here.
