Data Exploration is a huge part of our latest ICT strategy at the Technology Strategy Board. This network will act as the focus point for the whole strategic initiative on data exploration as well as specific competitions supporting that initiative.
Because of the very wide interest in this topic, we want to build a network and then use this to scope the specific competition opportunities that will follow. There is also a great deal of interest in co-funding different aspects of this scope. It is therefore expected that the various potential co-funding agencies for these competitions will join this network.
In the second half of calendar year 2013, there will be a number of events organised to bring different constituencies of the network together to focus on scope, dissemination and consultation for a competition as listed on p56 of the TSB 2013-14 Delivery Plan
. These events will be listed on this site.
This year's competition of Data Exploration will be a significant investment by the TSB and its co-funding partners, and will be structured for focus in two dimensions, by sector and by technology challenge. Examples of sectors addressed may include:
Physical Sciences and Space
High Value Manufscturing/Engineering etc.
Example technologies may include:
Collaborative data exploration
Reduced cost hi-fidelity visualisation
New human-machine interfacing for exploring data (beyond keyboard, mouse and screen).
By focussing the scope of the competition in this way, specific challenges that present problems for different sectors will be addressed by innovative ICT solutions.
