KTN's online platform helps you to make the connections you need

The Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) has refreshed its online platform to intelligently connect you to relevant events, funding, thought pieces and specialist staff to help your business innovate and grow.

You can discover content using your area of interest, from Digital Creative to transport; from space to health – all major UK economic sectors are covered. Once you have selected your interests, using our intelligent tagging system, we will then display rich and relevant content related to your area, often from surprising sources.

An example might be new satellite technology from the space sector that is applicable in the agri-food sector. KTN-UK.co.uk will help you form these unusual and valuable connections.

All content on the platform has been carefully curated by our team of innovation specialists – not by an automated algorithm – so you can be confident that KTN is connecting you to the most relevant cutting-edge information.

The move also marks a closer alignment with our main funder, Innovate UK , with the website branding making a clear visual link. Knowledge Transfer Network is Innovate UK's innovation network partner, and also works with other funders to provide innovation networking services and fulfil our mission to drive UK growth.

We link new ideas and opportunities with expertise, markets and finance through our network of businesses, universities, funders and investors. From agri-food to autonomous systems and from energy to design, KTN combines expertise in all sectors with the ability to cross boundaries. Connecting with KTN can lead to potential partners, horizon-expanding events and innovation insights relevant to your needs.

CIKTN awards six ICASE PhD projects to members

For the second year running, the Creative Industries KTN was allocated six ICASE studentships by the EPSRC, and invited applications from our members for these industry-sponsored PhD awards.

We're delighted to announce that six awards have been made for a range of fascinating projects ranging from immersive cinema, digitally printed tile design and serious games.

The successful partnerships are:

Portal Entertainment and Birmingham City University - Creating better empathic connection between non-linear storytelling and audience

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and University of Liverpool - Human factors in the design of stereoscopic 3D

System Simulation and Royal College of Art - Visualising cultural data

Johnson Tiles and University of Warwick - Texture synthesis for creative tile design

PlayGen and University of Coventry - Internet metadata as embedded transmedia content in serious games

Archbishops’ Council and University of Greenwich - Exploring models for how information gathered on user journeys through virtual and physical environments (UJVEs and UJPEs) can be exploited to create new retail opportunities for heritage and tourist sites.

The three-and-a-half year projects will begin between October 2011-October 2012. CIKTN will advertise opportunities to apply as PhD students, as well as providing a platform for the promotion of the projects and their outcomes.

EPSRC allocates ICASE awards on an annual basis, so at present CIKTN is unable to confirm its allocation for 2012. If you're interested in applying for an ICASE award in 2012, join the ICASE Group, where more information will be posted as soon as it becomes available.
