Event Report: EU Funding for NMBP in 2016 Launch

On 17 September KTN held a European brokerage event to launch the Horizon 2020 draft work programme for 2016 for Nanotechnologies, Advanced Materials, Biotechnology and Advanced Manufacturing and Processing (NMBP).

90 delegates from the UK and Europe gathered on the day in London to explore the funding opportunities for NMBP in Horizon2020 and to build new collaborations.

Ben Chesson (BIS) guided through the first part of the day, which included a presentation on the funding opportunities available in 2016 for NMBP by Nicholas Deliyanakis (European Commission), a business perspective on the benefits of participating in European projects by Pufinji Obene (PVI), and a panel session on support available in the UK for prospective applicants to European funding featuring Kalyan Sarma (National Contact Point), John Christopher (EEN) and Susanne Coles (KTN) as panellists.

The morning was concluded with a series of pitches by delegates looking to collaborate in European projects chaired by Claire Claessen (KTN).

The afternoon session featured two workshops held in parallel. One workshop was focused on the ETPs (European Technology Platforms) SusChem, EuMaT and ManuFuture, the other provided delegates with practical guidance from National Contact Point Craig Sharp on how to crack the impact question.

The event concluded with a networking session and opportunities for attendees to talk 1:1 with the European Commission, National Contact Points, EEN and KTN.

Presentations of the event can be viewed here and a recording of the morning session can be found on KTN TV. Also available for download are delegate profiles where provided.

Among the attendees of the event was a special delegation from Spain-based ADItech, a private foundation that brings together the Navarra Region (Spain) Technology Centres in the fields of Agrifood, Renewable Energies, Industry, and Biomedicine. Following the main event interested parties had the opportunity to meet with the ADItech delegates in a separate workshop. This separate event was chaired by National Contact Point Kalyan Sarma and presentations were given by ADItech, Lucideon, NetComposites, National Composites Centre, PVI and TWI. Presentations from the ADItech workshop will be made available in due course.

Note, the final draft versions of the Horizon 2020 work programmes for 2016-2017 have been published by the European Commission.
