This month (September 2016), BIOOX will enter its final year. BIOOX has already delivered valuable science offering new insights into the enzymes and processes which will be required to develop new industrial bio-oxidation reactions. The potential for biocatalysis to improve the safety, cost, and sustainability of chemical manufacturing is becoming clear, and the final stage of the project will focus on bringing together all of the knowledge and systems developed so far in order to demonstrate those benefits for our chosen reactions. Through demonstration scale processes, incorporating new enzymes, reactor technologies and process designs, we will be able to validate these technology platforms to enable future industrial development beyond the lifespan of the project.
