Angmering Community Centre (ACC) is a one storey, 580m2 community centre in the Angmering Parish of the Arun district of West Sussex County Council. The community centre contains a multi-purpose hall, two meeting rooms, a central display and refreshments area and a fully equipped semi commercial kitchen.
The building is a brick cavity construction with timber frame and concrete tile roof. The building fabric has been designed to U-values of 0.2 W/m2K for the roof and floor and 0.23 W/m2K for the walls. Windows were specified as double glazed with a low-e coating and a U-value of 1.96 W/m2K
Space heating is provided by a ground source heat pump with a slinky type ground loop and with heat distributed via an underfloor heating network. Openable windows are used to provide natural ventilation whilst mechanical extract ventilation has been provided in the toilets and kitchen. Natural ventilation controls are a mix of electrically opened high level windows and roof lights in the main hall and manual openings in the meeting rooms. The main halls windows are operated by a single switch
whereas the roof lights are controlled by a remote control.
A 10kWp photovoltaic array is located on the south facing pitched roof which supplies electricity which is monitored by generation and export meters and displayed on a digital display board in the central corridor.
Lighting is a combination of fluorescent tube and compact fluorescent lamps with a mix of manual switches and PIR controls.
The project team are currently undertaking a detailed BPE of the community centre. Energy use will be monitored by sub meters and analysed using TM22. Comfort conditions are to be investigated by installing temperature, humidity and CO2 sensors on site. A study of the operation and performance of the GSHP system is also being carried out which aims to determine the in-use coefficient of performance (COP) of the system.
