Osaka University, the 3rd-ranked university in Japan, is now running 'CLIC PhD internship program' and seeks European companies which are interested in accepting internships. This program is different from usual internship programs in several points:
1) The participants are young researchers (PhD students & postdocs) from various science/technology field throughout the university - not undergraduates.
2) The University is aiming to conduct collaboration which can eventually lead to technological innovation, rather than just having 'industry experience' as usual internship.
3) The participating employer can establish useful connections with Osaka University and other related institutes/ industrial clusters around the university.
4) The program is funded by the Japanese Ministry of Education, and the host company does not have to pay for internship's living/travel/salary cost.
So we think this is particularly beneficial for SMEs as well as for larger companies in science/ technology fields.
