Ph.D in the development of production systems for the commercial culture of Ulva species in the UK.

Applicants are sought for a fully funded Ph.D. studentship to develop systems and protocols for year-round production and growth of Ulva species in the UK at the School of Marine Science and Technology, Newcastle University
 
. This studentship benefits from strong commercial links to the whole foods market, and the anti-fouling and bioenergy sectors.
 
Experience of macroalgae reproduction and culture would be advantageous.
 
This three year studentship includes the payment of all tuition fees and attracts an annual tax free stipend of at least £13,590 (GBP). Provision for consumables, equipment and travel are also included.
 
There are no restrictions on applicant eligibility with full funding available to UK, EU and international applicants.
 
It is expected that applicants will hold a minimum of a 2i degree (or equivalent) in a relevant biological science and, ideally, also hold a qualification at Masters Level (or equivalent).
 
Applicants should be prepared to begin the Studentship in September 2012.
 
In the first instance, applicants should send a CV and covering letter to Dr Gary Caldwell (Gary.Caldwell@ncl.ac.uk). The deadline for initial expressions of interest is April 6th, 2012 with a final application deadline of April 17th, 2012.
