Funding from IBioIC: Process Scale-up Demonstrator

Following a £2.7m investment from the Scottish Funding Council for the creation of two open access facilities, IBioIC are currently inviting applications for industry-led projects that require the use of the IBioIC Equipment Centres’ resource to accelerate the development and commercialisation of industrial biotechnology.  They invite applications from projects with a total value between £10,000 and £120,000 and time length of 1 to 6 months.
Rapid Bioprocess Prototyping Centre (RBPC)The RBPC located at the University of Strathclyde houses the most advanced technology available to rigorously assess the potential of new cell lines, bio-products or novel approaches to bioprocessing in terms of actual industrial potential in order to address the significant gap in the future development of IB, focusing on bioprocesses stages up to an industrial compatible scale. A full list of equipment available can be found on the RBPC webpage.
Flexible Downsteam Bioprocessing Centre (FlexBio) - Flexbio is located at Heriot-Watt University, links to the Rapid Bioprocess Prototyping Centre by taking the most promising bio-processes and proving they work at a scale that allows the move to commercialisation. This Centre fills the current UK-wide gap in the provision of scale-up facilities at this semi-tech scale combined with a highly flexible, integrated approach to total process development on a single site. This facility has flexibility at its core, supporting work in all aspects of industrial bioprocessing – from chemical focused industrial biotechnology through bacterial, algal and mammalian cell culture products to cell therapies to maximise the breadth of industrial applications. A full list of equipment available can be found on the FlexBio webpage.
