Big event to showcase the UK’s bio-based industry

Leading IB: A UK Showcase

The Church House Conference Centre, Westminster

22nd & 23rd January 2013

Leading IB: A UK Showcase is a 2-day event showcasing new UK products and processes made possible through industrial biotechnology.

The global bioeconomy is gaining pace and the UK is positioning itself at the forefront. Illustrating the progress made in exploiting industrial biotechnology in the UK, the event will provide delegates with the opportunity to see recent examples of success, meet new collaborators, gain understanding of available facilities and find routes to access public and private finance.

This event will be attended by senior industrialists, leading academics, technology providers and policy makers. Setting out the Industrial Biotechnology strategy and agenda for the UK to realise the £12bn opportunity*, this is an event not to be missed.

*In 2009, the IB-IGT report “Maximising UK Opportunities from Industrial Biotechnology in a Low Carbon Economy” estimated an opportunity of up to £12bn sales for the UK by 2025.

Why algae?

Algae have a critical role to play in driving a biobased economy in the UK. Algae oil has the potential to replace petroleum derived oils used in everyday products and there is currently a growing interest in using algae as a feedstock for bio-based products. You can find out more about the potential of algae in bio-based products here

If you are interested in algae and algal-based products then register now for this event. This will be the perfect place to talk with people seeking alternative feedstocks for their processes and to hear about the strategy for a bio-based industry in the UK from ministers.
