The ABSIG & PHYCONET (a BBSRC NIBB) invite you to a one-day workshop aimed at driving the translation of algal-based technologies into industry.

Interested in giving a 5-minute pitch? Deadline for abstract submission is Monday 18th May. Please send your 250-word maximum abstract and title (in WORD) to jean.phillips@ktn-uk.org for consideration. LIMITED SLOTS AVAILABLE.

Aim of workshop: Microalgae, as small chemical factories, have huge potential and the UK’s strength in the culturing and extracting value from them is growing. Several factors have been identified required to drive the industry in the UK (see A UK Roadmap for Algal Technologies, 2013). One requirement is knowledge exchange, hence this event is designed to seek input from industry, determine the molecules and/or functionality they require then determine if microalgae can be the source.

The objective is to build partnerships and consortia for current funding competitions (e.g. IB Catalyst, BBSRC PHYCONET BIV & POC).

Format of workshop:

o   Industry pitches

o   Academic pitches

o   Facilitated industry ‘wish list’ activity & discussion

o   Networking breaks

The programme will be available soon.

Resources available on the day:

o   Information on funding calls relevant to microalgae

o   Wifi

o   Delegate list

o   Some initial details on microalgae-derived molecules and products to aid discussion

Who should attend?

Businesses or academics interested in microalgae

Industries seeking a bio-based molecule or (new) functionality

Consumer goods companies

Oil and gas companies

Chemical companies (e.g. commodity, speciality, fine)

Transport companies

Biotechnologists
