Shift2Rail publishes slides presented at its €26.1 million ’Open Call’ Information Day in Brussels

Shift2Rail has published slides presented at its recent Information Day on the current Shift2Rail open calls, held in Brussels.

The presentations, made on 20 January 2016, include an overview of the 2015 and 2016 calls, general Horizon 2020 "cross-modal topics" that may be of interest to the railway community, and details of the current ‘Open call’ topics included in 2016 Annual Work Plan - that has a deadline for submission of are 5PM, Brussels time, 17 March 2016.

Open calls offering €26.1 million

Shift2Rail is designed to achieve the Single European Railway Area through the removal of remaining technical obstacles holding back the rail sector in terms of interoperability; to radically enhance the attractiveness and competitiveness of the European railway system to ensure a modal shift towards rail; and help the European rail industry to retain and consolidate its leadership on the global market for rail products and services.

An allocation of at least 30% of the European Union contribution is expected to be made through competitive calls for non- members of the Shift2Rail undertaking.

In December Shift2Rail, the Joint Undertaking (JU) backed by the Commission and the rail industry, published its first calls for proposals, offering €170 million to support innovation in railways.

‘Open calls’, for non-JU members, are offering for a total value of €26.1 million, and are available to companies, universities, research institutes and others that are not Shift2Rail members.

The calls have deadlines of 5pm (Brussels time) on 17 March 2016.
