Consortia building for Innovate UK’s forthcoming third Accelerating Innovation in Rail competition on Enabling the Digital Customer

Innovate UK and FutureRailway/RSSB is to open for entries a third Accelerating Innovation in Rail competition offering investment to accelerate innovation in the UK rail industry - this time addressing business challenges in the area of customer experience.

A week ahead of the opening of the competition KTN is organising a consortia-building event for potential applicants - to be held in Coventry on 2 March 2015. Registration for this event is now open.

Accelerating Innovation in Rail competitions 1 & 2

The first Accelerating Innovation in Rail competition, announced its winning eighteen projects in April 2012, awarding overall funding of £5 million.

The funding came from the Technology Strategy Board (now InnovateUK), the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills), with 50% of the funding coming through RSSB, the rail industry body for research and development.

Last September we reviewed progress of the first rail competition, for which projects got underway in January 2013.

The second Accelerating Innovation in Rail competition supported by Technology Strategy Board (now Innovate UK) and RSSB, entitled Enabling the Digital Railway, awarded more than £8.5m of funding to 11 collaborative R&D projects. These projects started in early 2014.

KTN consortium-building event for potential applicants

KTN, now as one networking organisation, is now not only directly connected to all significant transport sectors, but also the full diversity of wider UK industry - including, for example, leaders in built environment, creative industries, ICT and data security.

As such, the consortia-building event for potential applicants - to be held in Coventry University’s TechnoCentre on 2 March 2015 - should prove invalauble for creating new connections suited to applicants.
