Bramall's Windmill View House: This home is the first in the country to be fully certified to the Code for Sustainable Homes and lived in. Conventional masonry construction was used for a traditional appearance, in keeping with the local character.

ecoTECH ORGANICS Smart House: The ecoTECH Zero Carbon Build System is an affordable modular housing solution utilising a Swedish manufactured closed panel timber frame with UK-built or assembled elements.

One Brighton, New England Quarter, Blocks E & F: The site has been developed in accordance with the 10 ‘One Planet Living' principles and should become the first One Planet Community in the world. These sustainability principles were developed by BioRegional and WWF International and aim to provide a balanced socialeconomic-environmental approach to achieving sustainability, including achieving zero CO2 emissions.

Osborne 36b Mid Street: The flats are the first dwellings built to Level 5 that have been occupied in the UK. These flats include a minimum of new technologies as it is intended for affordable, easily run, social housing.

DFM House, Oxley Woods Block B: The Oxley Woods site is part of the Design for Manufacture (DfM) programme, which is a government led challenge to build high quality, well designed and sustainable houses for a construction cost of £60,000.

The Hanson Ecohouse: The two-storey Hanson EcoHouse was the first dwelling in the UK designed to Code Level 4 using masonry construction. It has three bedrooms, a floor area of 117m2 and a traditional brick finish for mass market appeal.

Tarmac Homes Project by Lovell Partnerships: Tarmac Homes Project is constructing two semidetached, low energy masonry homes at the University of Nottingham's School of the Built Environment as part of a showcase of innovative energy efficient homes of the future.

Miller Homes Miller Zero Housing Project: The Miller Homes Miller Zero housing project comprises homes complying with Code levels 3, 4, 5 and 6. The development is an R&D project aimed at showcasing how these various code levels dwellings can be produced and the implications for the supply chain.

Organic light emitting diodes: OLEDs could revolutionise lighting and photovoltaic technology. They are many times more efficient than the cathode ray tubes that are present in televisions.

The Ventmiser control system: Produced by West Energy Technology Systems this has been developed for ventilation systems in bathrooms and kitchens. It responds to the occupants' behaviour such as the current drawn when cooking or the hot water temperature sensed when the shower is running. This gives more opportunities for energy saving than motion sensors or light connections.

Sunscoop tubular roof lights: These tubular rooflights from Glidevale are an effective way to bring natural daylight to windowless parts of a building. Highly reflective tubes transfer daylight from roof-mounted collectors to ceiling diffusers, and each can provide as much light as a 150-200 watt bulb.

CoolVault thermal ceiling blocks: Thermal ceiling blocks from Ibstock are designed to add thermal mass to a building so that the internal temperature can be regulated more effectively.

Ecoterre unfired clay bricks: Unfired clay bricks from Ibstock are a low-carbon solution to building internal partition walls in buildings. In addition, the bricks reduce the humidity in buildings and reduce the growth of mould.

Earthwool glass-fibre insulation: This new insulation from Knauf Insulation is manufactured using recycled glass bottles and also benefits from a new, low-carbon binder material.

Suspended Particle Device (SPD) Dimmable Glass: SPD Dimmable Glass provides intelligent control over light and heat with outstanding optical clarity. Dimmable external facades, windows and skylights offer a combination of benefits including glare reduction, cooling, protection from harmful UV rays, energy savings and increased privacy & security.

TelpoTie wall ties for cavity walls: Traditional metal wall ties can provide cold-bridging in exterior cavity walls and this reduces the insulation properties of the wall. TeploTie wall ties are a new innovative alternative from Magmatech that avoid this problem. They are manufactured from basalt fibres in a polymer matrix and have recently been used in domestic and school projects.

Filtrete filters for ventilation and air-handling plant: Filtrete filters are 3M products that have been used in America but are now being promoted into the UK. The material used in the filter and its rigid frame reduce the pressure drop across the filter and prevent by-pass of dirty air.

AWADUKT Ground-air Heat Exchange Pipe: This new pipework product from REHAU has been specifically designed to meet the needs of designers and contractors installing ground-source heat exchangers to pre-heat or pre-cool fresh air for building ventilation. The pipework is installed at a depth of about 1-1.5 metres and can be used for both commercial and domestic buildings.

Spacetherm LaminateTM Insulation Material: Spacetherm Laminate is an innovative insulation board that uses AeroGel technology to deliver much better insulation than traditional materials for the same thickness. This has important application in the refurbishment of domestic and commercial properties to improve their thermal insulation.

Jablo: is a lightweight cellular material suitable for a whole range of applications from cut boards, to moulded panels to being incorporated into SIPS panels. Jablo offers enhanced thermal performance of up to 20% over traditional insulants.

Modcell: MBE KTN first became aware of ‘Modcell' during a visit to the University of Bath in September 2007. At that time, the project was described as an innovative prefabricated building system using straw bales.
